OVERVIEW.

40+. The parent of a past Victor who has been wracked with grief following their unexpected death. When your child won their Games, you stopped believing in fate, and their death did nothing to spur this theory. If anything, your conviction grew. When THE HAWK returned from the 98th Games, which occurred the same year your child passed, you were convinced this wasn’t divine either. Longtime bootlegger and enforcer for THE HAWK’s uncle, you are familiar with acting as fate, and it was about time that karma served you with notice of moral bankruptcy. You’d originally started your life of criminality to avoid dying in a mine, to avoid making your child an orphan. As such, you taught your child to always have a hand in everyone’s pocket. After their passing, you were drinking yourself into a languid death, wondering if it was this conniving spirit that killed your baby. Or your own actions. A karmic force. Was there a divine plan after all? Your only choice is to believe that their death was purposeful in some way, and you have lived your life since then trying to make it worth something. Trying to pay back all the evil you believe you have done.

Perhaps this was what led you into this Rebel plot alongside THE AUTEUR and THE HAWK: you were going to be another body apathetically lost. Everyone cried for three days after your kid died, and then they stopped. No one cared about one of the single most important souls in D12, so what would they make of your death? What would President Snow? As you call it, laying your life on the line, you stand to save a country with your single, fatty-livered soul, and this is the only thing that stops the parasitic guilt from eating what remains of you.

QUICK FACTS:

CONNECTIONS.

THE JESTER — When they dropped down in District 12, you sensed a fish out of water, and given it was always your job to know the ins and outs of D12, you took an interest in them. You brought THE JESTER into the fold. You have taken on a parental role in their life, especially after they brought you food and company following your child’s passing. There are certain bits of kindness that you cannot afford to brush off, and you believe, despite what they have told you, that they are good. You over share a drink and commiserate over your sins. There is, admittedly, something unhealthy and enabling about your dynamic, but you have also pushed them in ways that you hope will lead to them avoiding the pitfalls your parenting created for your kin.

THE HAWK — You were a friend and employee of their uncle’s. Working together for many years before you quit crime and blackmarket dealings, THE HAWK and you have a tight-knit relationship. However, it has seen a downturn in recent years, especially as they continue to treat THE BERSERKER with a callous cool and prefer to keep their own solitude. You have tried to get through to them, but it only ends up in arguments. You see how they other themself, and you worry for their health and safety. A man is no island, you’ve told them, but you don’t think they hear you.

THE BERSERKER — You met on the Victory Tour for their Games. THE HAWK introduced you as their mentor, on par with their parent. You could sense the affection, platonic or otherwise, that thrummed between them. As such, you took THE BERSERKER on as another one of your many adopted kin. They have confided in you their feelings regarding THE HAWK, the guilt and trauma from the Games, etc. You offer advice that only a parent to a Victor could offer, and they remind you of the goodness that can exist even in those of great force and whose shadow is marred by death.
