OVERVIEW.

DISTANT RELATIVE OF THE VICTOR OF THE 11TH HUNGER GAMES. You honestly did not know of your relation to a past Victor, who could be Mags, until your name was announced. Dazed and confused, you barely heard them explain your relationship as you took the stage. Your ancestor was one of the first few remarkable Tributes, and the first of your District. This makes sense, even if you do not see this in your myopia. In fact, you don’t even know if it's true. Does it matter? You were going to be chosen anyways.

Years ago, you defected from one of the top Academies, a Career-training school, joining to receive the stipend for your family and the childish dream of bringing prosperity and glory to your District. You were crowed as the chosen Tribute when you came of age at 18. The Academy you attended dates back to the same time as the Victor you supposedly are the progeny of. Never has any student of said Academy defected until you. The day of the Reaping, you were supposed to volunteer. But — as your friend walked up to the stage, you remained silent. Your face burns with the same shame now. As you ride on the train with THE STAR, the person who took your place, a program on your Reaping runs in the background, and Caesar Flickerman comments on how unfair the Reaping can be. It is in reference to your lineage, but at home, you know everyone will recognize it as payment for being a traitor. A coward.

You know its deserved, though, even if it feels unfair. What has all your “Peacekeeping” done? How many children in District 12 (where you have been stationed since you were 18) have starved to death on your watch? How many crimes have you been paid to ignore, how many murders happened by the hand of your fellow officers? It is more than just THE STAR — at least they survived. It is all the sins after — all of them left unpaid. All those injustices made by your hands and your inaction.

QUICK FACTS:

CONNECTIONS.

THE STAR — Childhood friends, your status as a top-performing Career made you THE STAR’s protector in early childhood. While you cared very little about being the protector in other people’s lives, you were proud to be theirs, and you considered them like family. On the day they were called forth for the Reaping, you hadn’t even realized who you had sentenced to death until the time for volunteering had passed and they were announcing the next Tribute. You have not spoken in many years since you were sent to be a Peacekeeper, and you are terrified to meet them again now. You have never forgiven yourself for your betrayal, and you are unsure what to do now.

THE HERMIT — You trained in District 12 when you began your training as a Peacekeeper. At this time, you met THE HERMIT, who sensed you were a fish out of water. Plagued by your shortcomings and rejected by your family, it was THE HERMIT who brought you into the fold, who helped you live with the guilt, with the cowardice. They have taken on a parental role in your life, especially after you brought them food and company following their child’s passing. You have confided in them your greatest secrets, often over a drink you pair have shared. There is, admittedly, something unhealthy and enabling about your dynamic, but they have also pushed you in ways that have brought genuine joy to your life, despite all the sins you’ve left unpaid.
